Emergency Car Kits
DO YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY CAR KIT?
No one enjoys or expects car trouble. We only ever hope that if we do get stranded, we’ll be close to help or at least have cell service to call for help. Life doesn’t always pan out the way we hope, so best be prepared just in case. One way to do this is to keep an emergency car survival kit in your vehicle at all times. Below are the bare minimums to consider, but also be thinking about what you would need, regardless of the season if you were stuck for 24 hours or more. There are also ready-made kits for purchase, so you don’t have to think or plan much at all.
- Water (one gallon per person per day)
- Food (at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food)
- Battery-powered or hand-crank radio and/or NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert
- Flashlight
- First aid kit
- Extra batteries
- Whistle (to signal for help)
